HD Housing: Bloomfield Drive - PROPOSAL APPROVED (see article below)

TPZ Approves Affordable Housing Complex on Bloomfield Drive
The Town Plan and Zoning Commission unanimously approved an affordable housing project - without being ordered to by the courts.

"This is one of the nicest 8-30g (state affordable-housing law) applications to come before us," TPZ Commissioner Jaci Coleman said, regarding the plan to build nine units on Bloomfield Drive.

"It's a good plan," Vice Chairman Gerry Alessi said.

Past applications under the 8-30g state statute, which allows builders to propose building denser developments in exchange for setting aside a portion of the units as "affordable," have faced tough scrutiny by the TPZ and ultimately been denied. Read more: Fairfield Citizen 3/10/16

Housing project with ‘affordable’ units proposed on Bloomfield Drive
A nine-unit affordable housing project has been proposed for property at 8 Bloomfield Drive, around the corner from a similar project on Campfield Drive.

The Town Plan and Zoning Commission is expected to recommend a public hearing for the application filed by Turk Properties, LLC, at its meeting Tuesday. The manager and agent for Turk Properties is Primrose Lane resident Turgut Parlakkilic.

According to the project application submitted by lawyer John Fallon, the development will consist of seven two-bedroom units and two one-bedroom units in three buildings. One building will have two townhouses, one will have three townhouses, and the third will have two townhouses and two one-bedroom units.

The two-bedroom units will encompass about 1,900 square feet each, while the one-bedroom units will have 620 square feet. Each unit will have a one-car garage, with a total of 14 parking spaces overall. Read more: Fairfield Citizen 1/12/16
